read an article about de-conversion of ministers in a magazine. lolz wow the arm of atheism has grown long indeed for it to be able to pluck out clergymen from their secure seat of faith.
the de-conversion process: brought up in a religious environment, restlessness and doubt, epiphany. lolz sounds exactly the same as a conversion process. and the reason for de-converting? "...it was intellectual: Religion eventually just did not make sense". ahhh this is... totally 2 sides of the same coin. free-tinkers give up logic for faith, and religious leaders give up faith for logic. lolz so lets all just trade places with our opposites~ and we can get back to living life again.
must catch richard dawkin's work. one of the world's top intellectuals~ he must have a pretty good argument for atheism.
change. maybe we just can't remain static for too long. the frustration and restlessness sets in and stuff and we just have to try smth new. extremists like these are like a pendulum held to the far side of one end. doubt gnaws at the locks that hold it in place, and when the locks are broken, the pendulum swings with so much momentum that it reaches all the way to the other end. ok la i'm over-generalizing this. but in some cases it does happen like this i'd think.
then there's the spiral staircase analogy (source: nun-turned-religious scholar Karen Armstrong). on how we travel on this circular spectrum of faith/disbelief but always still in a general path of ascension. such that no matter what point we are in the circle, we still reach a higher level from which we see a wider landscape.
lolz interestingZ. but theology is a dangerous minefield.
